About

City of Peace Ottawa (CPO) is a multicultural, multilingual and all-inclusive civil society network. It consists of concerned citizens of Ottawa with a wealth of expertise and talents who promote a culture of peace.

Mission

  • To develop Ottawa as a model city of peace, and then help to develop model peaceful cities, social harmony and inclusiveness across Canada and in other nations.

Key Initiative

  • Canada’s Capital Path of Peace running through Ottawa and Gatineau, meeting at a Circle of All Nations Peace Park on Victoria Island. The intent is to symbolize the unity of the different nations and peoples of Canada, and their commitment and desire for peace. Plaques commemorating contributions to peace will be laid down at different points on the Path. Awards will be given to leaders in peacebuilding in Ottawa, Gatineau, in Canada and across the world.

Other Objectives

  • Foster peace dialogue across Canada among citizens and with government

  • Lessen conflict and promote peace and cross-cultural understanding among neighbourhoods and communities

  • Address the needs for dealing with conflict as it relates to its most vulnerable segments (children, youth and women at risk)

  • Work with government and the private sector to create structures for resolving conflict and building peace and social harmony

  • Cooperate with organizations with similar objectives in Canada and internationally through sustained engagement in issues of public interest.

  • Create an environment that will be conducive to constructive dialogue and facilitate that environment with communities and government regarding timely issues and leading to effective interventions

  • Promote through education and public awareness respect for life, equality, human rights and dignity

  • Undertake educational activities by integrating the teachings and wisdoms of aboriginal peoples and other ethno-cultural communities
